Keep the included white border on all four sides. Print size depends on the link length, pattern density, printer and scanning distance. Test the final printed layout on two different phones before making a batch; a larger PNG alone does not guarantee an easier scan.

Have a PDF menu?

A PDF menu works with any QR code, but guests have to pinch and zoom through a page laid out for paper. Two ways to turn it into a phone-friendly menu: photograph your printed menu and run the no-account menu scan to see the dishes and prices it reads, then sign up to save them; or create a free account and upload the PDF itself to the menu scanner during the 14-day trial. After the trial you can keep editing your free hosted QR menu by hand.

Common questions

How do I make a QR code for my restaurant menu?

Paste the public URL of your existing menu, choose a resolution, and download the QR code as a PNG. Place it on a table tent, menu or window. Test the printed code on a phone and check that guests can open the menu without signing in.

Can I create a QR code for a PDF menu?

Yes. Host your PDF menu on your website or another service that provides a public link, then paste that URL into the generator. This tool encodes the link; it does not upload, host or export a PDF. Keep the PDF available at that address after printing.

Does this QR code expire?

The static QR code has no expiry date. Your link is encoded directly into the pattern, with no Marji tracking redirect or subscription required to keep the code active. The destination still needs to stay available: if you remove the page or change its address, the printed code will keep pointing to the old URL.

Can I change my menu after printing the code?

You can update dishes, prices or a PDF at the same public URL and keep using the printed QR code. You cannot change the URL encoded in a downloaded static code. If your menu moves to a different address, generate a new code and replace the printed copies.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Creating and downloading a static QR code is free, with no account or watermark. It works with a menu URL you already have. If you need to create a hosted menu and edit its dishes and prices, Marji also offers a free QR menu builder with an account.

What resolution should I use for printing?

The 512px, 1024px and 2048px settings control PNG resolution, not printed dimensions. Use enough resolution for your layout, keep the included white border and test the final print at the distance guests will scan it. Link length, pattern density, printer quality and physical size also matter.

What is error correction and which should I pick?

Error correction adds recovery data. Standard (M), High (Q) and Maximum (H) offer approximately 15%, 25% and 30% data restoration. Those are not percentages of the printed area you can safely cover. Higher levels can make the pattern denser, so Maximum is not automatically better for a small print. Test the selected level in your final layout.

Can I track scans?

This generator does not provide scan counts. The code opens the URL you enter directly, with no tracking redirect. You can use analytics on a destination you control to measure visits to that page.

How big should the printed code be?

There is no single print size that fits every link, printer and scanning distance. The PNG includes a clear border four QR modules wide on every side; do not crop it or put text inside it. Test the final printed code on two different phones at the expected distance before running a batch.
