Changelog

What shipped, and when.

We're early, and we don't have a wall of customer logos to show you. What we can show you is the work: dated, specific, including the fixes that were our own fault.

  1. New

Wholesale price guides — how to read a supplier quote

Nine guides covering the staples every kitchen buys, each with the pack arithmetic that makes two quotes comparable, the four specs a rep can change without mentioning it, and the public market the trade prices off. We have no wholesale quote data and the pages say so on every screen: the only figure on them is the retail-level BLS average, labelled as such. They teach you to evaluate the quote you already have rather than pretending to give you one.

  2. New

The Restaurant Food Cost Index, published

A fixed-weight index of the ten commodities restaurants buy most, built on Bureau of Labor Statistics average-price data and weighted for a restaurant basket. Updated weekly, free to cite under CC BY, with the full history downloadable as CSV or JSON and the methodology written out in full.

  3. New

    Nine new free calculators

Recipe costing with yield adjustment, edible-portion cost, break-even in covers per day, fully-loaded labour cost, prime cost, pour cost, third-party delivery margin, ideal-vs-actual variance, par levels, and a price-increase impact model. Every one gives a shareable result URL and prints cleanly. No signup.

  4. New

A costing glossary with the math in it

Sixty-three restaurant costing terms, each with a plain definition, the formula, and a worked example using real numbers. Built because every existing glossary stops at the definition, which is the least useful half.

  5. New

Guides, and an editorial policy to go with them

Long-form guides to food cost, menu pricing, menu engineering and the restaurant P&L — each with original math rather than restated definitions. The editorial policy states how we source numbers and how AI is used in producing them.

  6. Fixed

    Published menus are indexable again

A platform-level header was sending `noindex` on every published customer menu page, overriding the per-page setting and keeping them out of Google entirely. Removed. Published menus are indexable; unpublished ones still correctly opt out.

  7. New

    A free QR code generator

Static, high-resolution, no account, no tracking redirect, and no expiry — unlike most free generators, which stop working unless you subscribe. Generated in your browser; the link never touches our servers.

  8. New

Competitor tracking from a Google Maps link

Paste a competitor's Google Maps link and Marji tracks their published menu and reviews, so you can see their pricing move rather than guess at it.

  9. New

    Twenty-three menu designs

Structurally distinct QR menu templates across six style groups — different typography, layout and section treatment, not colour swaps. Switch design without re-entering anything.

  10. New

    Free QR menu tier

A permanently free plan: hosted digital menu, QR code, printable table tents and PDF, and a sold-out toggle. No card, no trial clock.

  11. New

    Square catalog linking

Connect a Square account and link menu items to your Square catalog, so approved price changes can be pushed back rather than retyped. Early access.

  12. New

    AI recipe drafting

Marji drafts a plausible recipe for an uncosted dish so you start from something editable instead of a blank form. Every AI-estimated line is marked as such until you confirm it.

  13. New

    Invoice scanning and line editing

Photograph a supplier invoice; Marji reads the lines, matches them to your ingredients, and recosts every affected dish. Anything it was unsure about is flagged for a one-tap correction rather than silently trusted.

  14. New

    Weekly digest email

One email a week: what moved, which dishes crossed their margin target, and what it's worth to fix them.

Follow along.

The weekly email is mostly cost data rather than product news, but anything significant shows up in it. One email, unsubscribe in a click.
